FAQs
Environmental and community benefits of The Springvale Energy Park Project
Are there any environmental concerns?
The project is a win for the environment, offering clean power generated by solar panels (Stage 2) and storage of the power that has been generated by the solar facility and residential solar panels.
It is an Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) requirement for all former landfills to conduct a fully audited review of the site with the results of these audits to be reported annually to the EPA. This will continue for the life of the site.
What are the benefits of having a renewable energy facility in metropolitan area?
Power will not be transited over a long distance. By keeping the power local, residents are less dependent on proposed infrastructure development like transmission lines. The battery will help reduce blackouts by releasing stored electrical resources to the grid at peak times.
How much clean energy will the renewable energy facility produce?
The Springvale Energy Park Project (Stage 2) is expected to produce enough green electricity per year to power around 25,112 average Victorian houses annually, and avoid 116,690 tonnes of C02 emissions per year.
This is the equivalent of taking 25,378 cars off the road or reducing the number of smartphones charged by 14 billion.
What sort of jobs will be available?
The skills required are specialised and job opportunities include civil works, concrete works, fencing and landscaping.
